I am a cognitive scientist interested in the perceptual control of action. I study tasks such as coordinated rhythmic movement and long distance throwing to investigate the affordances of our environments, how we perceive them and how we use this information to guide our behaviour. My work follows the ecological approach of James J. Gibson and I am also using this approach to develop a ‘radical’ (non-representational) version of embodied cognition with Sabrina.
I’m also interested in applying this work to understanding and treating developmental coordination disorder (DCD) and understanding how our ability to learn new skills changes with ageing.
